Sweet Melissa, I often pray for you
I hope your suffering was brief
I hope the angels that watch over all little children
Came for you and took you someplace beautiful and sweet
Aahh..
Suffer The Little Children
Anne woke up screaming, she could feel the cold iron brushing up against her flesh, ripping into her again and again, and she could hear the laughter that was following each blow. It seemed so real, seemed too real to her, she wanted it to stop and it did when she woke up. She grabbed her Pegasus and held him tightly, tears flowing down her cheek as she heard Uncle Frankie and Ben running down the hall to her. She was so afraid of having to go through that pain again, she only wanted to be loved, just like any other child would, but they had hurt her instead, she was afraid that these new people she had come to live with would do the same to her, so she ate to keep up her strength, not sure when the food would stop coming to her.
They cry in the dark, so you can't see their tears
They hide in the light, so you can't see their fears
Forgive and forget, all the while
Love and pain become one and the same
In the eyes of a wounded child
"I'm so afraid Pegasus, they're going to leave me some day and I'll be alone again, honestly, there are times I think being locked in the box was best."
Her Pegasus warmed to her, and once Frankie and Ben both left to get her hot chocolate to calm her down, he spoke to her, "Why Anne?"
"Because it might have hurt a lot, but at least, I knew I wasn't well, you know, cast out."
"Anne, I think these people love you."
"But they don't hurt me...how can you love something if you never hurt it?"
"Pain, isn't love Anne, it's pain."
Because Hell
Hell Is For Children
And you know that their little lives can become such a mess
Hell
Hell Is For Children
And you shouldn't have to pay for your love with your bones and your flesh
She frowned at the Pegasus briefly trying to puzzle out his words, she curled up close to him on the bed, her tears still streaming down her face, Frankie came back in and smoothed her hair and gave her the hot chocolate. She looked up at him, her eyes red, and she grasped the cup in her little hands. "Uncle Frankie, Pegasus says that you don't have to hurt things to love them."
"He's right. You should never hurt things you love."
"Why?" She asked curiously.
"Because it's not nice to hurt things, especially things you care about and love."
She made a little oh face and drank her hot chocolate.
It's all so confusing, this brutal abusing
They blacken your eyes, and then apologize
You're daddy's good girl, and don't tell mommy a thing
Be a good little boy, and you'll get a new toy
Tell grandma you fell off the swing
"Why then did the mean people do it, if they didn't love me?" She asked Frankie.
"That my dear is a question for your mommy." Frankie smiled at her, "Now get in bed before I tickle you."
She giggled and climbed into bed, hiding beneath the covers with her Pegasus after handing Frankie her cup. He gently kissed her on the head and tucked her in. "No more bad dreams tonight...the princess needs her sleep."
Because Hell
Hell Is For Children
And you know that their little lives can become such a mess
Hell
Hell Is For Children
And you shouldn't have to pay for your love with your bones and your flesh
"Do you think he's right?" She asked her Pegasus once all the lights were out.
"I believe so."
"Oh," and she yawned then fell asleep.
No, Hell Is For Children
She dreamed...
Hell
Hell is for Hell
Hell is for Hell
Hell Is For Children
She could feel them coming....
Hell
Hell is for Hell
Hell is for Hell
Hell Is For Children
She could smell the odors they had, the nasty after shave, the medicine, they wanted to make her like them...
Hell
Hell is for Hell
Hell is for Hell
Hell Is For Children
But she wouldn't surrender....because she knew
Hell Is For Children
Hell Is For Children
